two days after thanksgiving, oliver and i had a big, BIG surprise. i was a day or two late on my period, so when i went to the grocery store to get my monthly supply of lady products, i also went ahead and grabbed a box of pregnancy tests.
(november was the first month that we decided not to prevent, but we definitely were not actively trying either. we figured we would just let things happen for awhile, and then sometime in mid-2014, we would start getting serious about trying for a baby.)
after a day of looking at RV's, we were finally home from all the thanksgiving traveling and oliver was watching tv while i took a bath. i decided to go ahead and take one of the tests since my period still hadn't started and i was not seeing any signs of it coming. well, i was certainly surprised when THIS happened!!!

i came out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel (side note: i am always in the bath when major life events happen. i was in the bathtub when
oliver proposed, and now when finding out about our first baby. strange) so anyway, i went out to the living room to tell him. i always dreamed of doing a super cute "tell your husband you're pregnant" thing, but i just blurted it out. he was in denial, then shock, and then kind of laughing and hugging me. then he asked if we had any vodka left. haha. i was crying and overwhelmed and happy and surprised. and thats how we found out!
we decided to tell both sets of parents around 8 weeks, before our first appt. we wanted them to know early because 1) its so hard to keep a secret like that, and 2) because we wanted to tell the big families at christmas, and we wanted our parents to know first. also, if something happened with the pregnancy, i would want my mom and his mom to be there for me. so not telling them until 12 weeks wasn't really for us.
luckily, one weekend in december, we ended up having his stepdad's birthday dinner on a friday, and my parents anniversary dinner on the saturday. so, perfect time to tell both!! for his stepdad and mom, we got him a nice bottle of port and then got a little card from the peanut. we met them in the woodlands for dinner, and when we gave him the card, he started laughing and oliver's mom and i were both crying. :) it was great!
for my parents, i got my dad a camo bottle, a bass pro shop onesie, and my mom a book from the 'nut called "my nana and me". (this will be their 4th grandbaby and the other 3 call her nana.) my dad got it right away and said his famous "No Shit!?" and my mom was kinda confused for a minute and then caught on. it was just a great weekend to tell them!!
all in all, i have felt pretty good. i am almost 15 weeks now, and plugging right along in the pregnancy. i want to do at least monthly updates, but seeing as i am just now blogging about this, we will see what happens. i also wanted to do bi-weekly bump pictures, but i am having a hard time deciding on backdrop and dress, as you can see below. also, oliver makes fun of me every time and has to get his own picture taken.
i had some nausea in the first trimester, but it was really nothing major. i never got sick or anything. and so far at 15 weeks i have no weight gain or loss. the hardest thing so far is i get MAJOR headaches for some reason, but even these seem to be calming down. at the end of my 12th week-13th week, i was SOOO exhausted and just really out if it, but this past week i have had much more energy and felt a lot better. i am ready for my bump to get here! and to get some projects going, and to paint the nursery. lots of things to look forward to. my birthday present from my mom and mother in law was maternity clothes, so i will be all set this spring & summer!
