bump watch: baby showers

i was so lucky to have been given not one, not two, but FOUR showers for baby willingham!

#1

my first shower was my family shower, thrown by oliver's aunts.  it was held at mims house, and as usual, everything was absolutely gorgeous.  the highlights of the shower were the beautiful cakes made by cacey and alisa, the fun games we played, and the amazing food!! i also loved the onesie decorating station.  baby ava got some super cute onesies to wear!  aunt alisa made me an amazing piece of artwork for the baby's room too, and aunt nadine made ava a whole bucket of bows!

my next shower was my friend shower and they held it at our house.  it was hosted by: annie, katherine, jennifer, rachael, and meghan,  and they outdid themselves on the food and decorations.  this shower was also HUGE.  i think we had something like 30-40 people there???  it was great to see friends i hadn't seen in awhile, and i even had friends drive all the way from austin for the day!  thanks sarah and carly!  my mom treated me to a morning of makeup and pampering since the girls were going to be at my house setting up.  it was such a great day!  some of the highlights were annie making me cry with a homemade ABC book for baby ava with pictures of everyone in her life.  (A is for Annie, M is for Mommy, etc.) and i also loved the homemade goodies bri and jenn made for the nursery!

hostesses!

#3
the third shower was a work shower my friends at halliburton threw me.  it was actually given to me by my old bosses (both of them!)  we had a great lunch and lots of laughs.  we had about 15 people come to the shower, three of them who were pregnant!!  something is in the water....

#4
was a diaper party thrown for oliver by the hayfords.  he was so excited to have his own party.  it ended up being just a good BBQ hang out type day and we got LOTS of diapers!

thanks everyone for all of the love for baby ava!!!

ava mae: one month

i cannot believe it has already been a month with this sweet baby!  i meant to blog sooner...but ya know, having a newborn and all.  keeps you kind of busy.

so where to begin?  she is such an easy, sweet baby. seriously--we got lucky.  she is exclusively breast fed, and gets a bottle of pumped milk from her dad every night before bed.  we started that at around 2.5 weeks to avoid the dreaded "nipple confusion"--but this kid has no problems switching back and forth.  she also loves a paci, or as they are known in our house, a boppy, and she prefers the soothie ones that are super ugly.  i have cute pink ones with little cases...nope.  she wants the ugly green ones.

we haven't had a doctors apt in awhile but if i had to guess i would say she's upwards of 9 lbs or so.  her birth weight was 7 lbs 11 oz, which dropped to 7 lbs 1 oz when we left the hospital.  so she has gained somewhere around 2 lbs since then, if not more.  (i get on the scale, see what i weigh, and then pick her up.  not the most accurate, i am sure.)  she is still in nb clothes and diapers.  we tried size ones for a minute and she peed right through the open leg hole, so back to newborns we went. both the clothes and diapers are getting a little tight though, so i am sure in the next week or two we will be moving up.

sleep is actually going well!  right out of the hospital she was giving us 2.5-3 hour stretches, awake to eat and diaper change, and then right back down.  now though, for the past 4-5 days, she has been going to sleep between 9-9:30 and waking up between 3-4am to eat and diaper change.  she is awake for about an hour or so, then back to sleep til about 7-8. its amazing!

she absolutely does not like to be set down for long when she's awake--she prefers to be held or worn.  i have two different wraps that i wear around the house and when she's in them she passes out.  thats actually how i am getting to blog right now!

she has been cluster feeding in the late afternoons/evenings, which i have read allows them to 'tank up' for a long stretch of sleep. seeing as she's giving us such long stretches, i don't mind the cluster feeding at all!

i have taken her out by myself a few times now...twice to the grocery store and once to target.  she does great and sleeps the whole time.  i have also had to feed her in public a few times which was intimidating at first but now i feel comfortable putting on the cover and feeding her.

harley is doing pretty well.  (her 5th birthday was yesterday!) she checks on the baby, gives kisses, and gets upset with me if the baby cries for too long.  she definitely has been a little depressed, but that seems to be going away.  she loves when visitors come over because they give her attention :).  but she really is good with the baby.

as far as my own recovery goes, i am about 8-9 lbs from pre pregnancy weight, and about 15 from wedding weight.  i lost a TON of weight those first two weeks, but since then it has leveled out and i am not losing as much.  i think it will take working out and eating healthy to really get down to my goal wedding weight, but i have to be careful that my supply doesn't drop.  my incision has been healing well but i do still have some pain on the left side.  it may be because i am left handed and thats the side that i lift with?  not sure. but i do still take ibuprofen occasionally.

she has had a TON of visitors and love over the last month!  and i know its super cliche, but i really cannot imagine our lives without her.  here are some of her newborn pics and her one week, three week, and one month pics!
